On Vacation

Hey, y’all…

I’m on vacation with my lovely bride in New York. I don’t think I’ll be posting here much during this time but I’m putting up a daily “journal” of sorts on patrick and raquel dot com. Go there and check it out. Leave comments, if you feel so lead…just like Mel does.

Announcing…

I’ve added a couple links in the sidebar over there to the right.

Over the last 6 months or so, I’ve had the privilege of getting to know a great guy named Marc. Raquel and I are the life group that meets at his home and have enjoyed hanging with he and his wife, Anita. Marc keeps up a blog that I’ve enjoyed reading. Go check out Brandenburg Blogs.

My best man, long time best friend, boss, and a guy that knows me almost as good as (if not better than) my wife and parents, Marco has finally jumped on the blogging bandwagon. A lot of you already know him so head over there to A Dog’s Life (named for his dog, Honey) and enjoy his ramblings. I’m sure you will.

That’s all for now.

Old Friends

I recieved an e-mail today from easily the last person I would have expected to e-mail me anymore, but one of the first people I would have killed to get an e-mail from. I called her out in one of those goofy forwards that I never get wrapped up in but decided to do anyhow and she took the bait. I couldn’t believe it when I saw her name pop into my inbox.

She was the person who, for the last two years or so of my living in California, was my dearest friend…far and away. Few people’s friendship impacted me the way that hers did. She mattered to me.

When I made the decision to move to Dallas, she spoke out against it quite assuredly. There was no mistaking her opinion that moving away from Southern California was the worst thing I could do for myself and some key people in my life. Needless to say, I didn’t share that opinion. It was very difficult for me though, because back then, I placed a lot of stock in the way people viewed me. Whether or not she new it, she owned most of that stock. I knew that by leaving California and going against what she thought would be the right thing to do, I would all but lay that friendship in the past.

I tried to maintain the friendship, but she disconnected from me. It took me a while to understand it but as time passed, I learned that’s how it was going to be and learned to live with it. Never understood it. But lived with it.

Today the e-mail came. She explained the disconnection. It made sense to me. I watched her do the same to other people. I never figured that I would somehow be put in the same bag with some of those people…ever. But that’s how it is.

I replied. I wonder if she’ll e-mail me again. I don’t need her approval anymore. I don’t need anyone’s approval. I would like that friendship again, though.

The Great Raid

We went to see The Great Raid tonight. This is an amazing depiction of an incredibly heroic feat that took place toward the end of WWII. I will probably see it again, and suggest that you do too. That is all.

My buddy Lee wrote a great article on the combination of these two technologies. Those of you who are into this kind of thing should go read it.

Change Is Good

I’ve been thinking about converting to WordPress. I like Blogger. It’s easy. But I like the options available in WordPress. I was going to do this a while ago but got hung up on a couple things and never went back to it. I couldn’t figure out how to move my Blogger postings to WP, which is huge to me, and I’m uneasy about the prospect of not having my comments on the new format either.

The other thing is, I’m not crazy about the WP themes I’ve seen. Almost Academic used to have a great theme (sorry, dude…not a fan of the new look). Who did that theme anyhow? I think I saw something he did that I liked.

Eh…who knows? We’ll see what happens.

NYC with my love…less than three weeks, baby.

Still Here

Life’s been busy lately…moving, working, working, working, moving, um…working, and some playing. I intend on writing soon. Of course, I’ve been intending on writing soon for the last three weeks, so we’ll see how that works out.

Vacation in a little more than three weeks. Heading up to NYC for my first time ever. We’ll be celebrating our one-year anniversary up there. Maybe staying at the Waldorf Astoria.

More to come soon, hopefully.
