Hurricanes And Stuff

A slight shift in the track for Hurricane Rita likely will mean that the residual heavy rain will fall on East Texas, skirting the Dallas-Fort Worth area in what the National Weather Service was calling a “significantly different” forecast on Thursday.

Ah well…I was kinda hoping for a bit of an exciting weekend.

This was a bit of an interesting week at work. I’m not really up for getting into the hows and whys but our little IT shop that started out this year at eight team members strong has now dwindled down to four. This week’s departure rocked me, but all will be well.

Two weeks ago a small group from my church siezed the opportunity to be church instead of just doing church. After only four days of planning (most of which happened during the remaining days of our New York vacation), the folks in charge of planning had secured two 53′ tractor trailers, and gotten the backing of a major secular radio station here in Dallas (interestingly enough, none of the Christian stations picked it up) to help advertise what we were doing. Without going into a long-winded detail of exactly what came together to make things happen, I will tell you that it was nothing short of a miracle that our little church with the help of some friends and radio listeners was able to fill up both of those trailers.

Subsequently, a group of 21 of us left from Frisco to drive overnight to Covington, Louisiana to unload one of those trailers the next day. We sent the other trailer to Alexandria, Louisanna to help out a church that had over 200 infants with nothing for them.

The trip had its fair share of hurdles but it was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever had the privilege to be a part of.

Some of us put together a video documentary of the weekend. It’s in three parts, totaling about 20 minutes. To download them, right click on the links below and select Save Target As….

I could still use some tips and help from you Wordpress users. You know who you are. Maybe even some design help?

Welcome to Wordpress

Welcome to the new blog, folks. I started talking about doing this several months ago, but I’ve finally taken the time to actually get it done. So here it is. I will be changing the look very shortly, but for now, it is what it is.

Would it be in bad taste to enlist some help from my Wordpress savvy readers? I need ideas on good themes to use that would somewhat go along with the look and feel of the Blogger page. Also, I’ve run into some problems with importing my Haloscan comments. I looked at justinsomnia’s instructions but they didn’t do me any good. I didn’t get those comments. If anyone knows how to work that stuff, I’d love some help.

Anyhow, here it is.

I went to Louisianna last weekend with some folks from church for a little hurricane relief. It was incredibly intense. I’ll write about that this weekend.
