Wholely Satisfied

Tonight completes just over a week of vacation.  I am generally under the impression that in order for a vacation to be truely enjoyed, it must be spent somewhere away from Texas.  I prefer places like Colorado, Wyoming, or just about anywhere in California.  But this time, the vacation was spent at home, and it was one of the most quality weeks I’ve spent not working in a long time.  My mom and dad came down here for the Easter weekend from Utah and that was a rewarding time for all of us.  I have come to really appreciate and value the relationship I have with both of my parents and I really wish they could somehow be closer to where we are…or at least significantly farther from where they are.  Of course there was the purchase of our new home and for them to be there when we signed the papers was an extremely proud moment for me.

They left on Tuesday night.  Wednesday was a day of rest for me and then Thursday the men of Genesis Metro embarked on our retreat.  Again, an incredibly rewarding time spent with quality men, cultivating existing friendships, creating new friendships, and men being men…no masks, no one to impress, just men being who we are in God’s sight, worshipping together without any boundaries.  The vacation wrapped up today with an awesome worship service at church, lunch with lots of friends, visiting the new home-site to check on the progress, and spending quality time with the true love of my life.

Tomorrow it’s back to the grind.  But all is not lost…I will be attending a conference in Dallas until Wednesay which means I don’t have to be at the office until Thursday.  Greatness.

That’s it for now…

The other site is in the midst of a redesign.  We’ll be documenting the progress of our new home from the date we signed the papers to the day we move in and more.  I hope to have that up sometime this week.  Check often for that.

Retreat Time

Today I depart for the second-annual Genesis Metro mens’ retreat. This should be a great time! Last year when we went I was feeling pretty defeated. Raquel and I had just received some fairly deflating news and I was having some back pains and starved for quality sleep. I was pretty beat down last year. But I was hopeful and optimistic. I wrote last year on the day that we left. Read it here if you’re interested. As I sit here reflecting on where I am in relation to the men of our church now in contrast to where I was last year, I am truly thankful and can’t wait to delve deeper this weekend. Genesis Metro has some terrific men of honor and I consider myself privileged to be counted among them. Once again, here am I. Bring it on!

So, uh…

…we bought a house.  More on this coming soon.

Beat

Man…I am just beat. Been busy enjoying some great times with the folks. Dad and I rode the historic Grapevine railroad yesterday to the Fort Worth Stockyards. Too much money for a mediocre train ride but it was good times nonetheless. We did Old City Park and the Dallas Farmers Market on Friday, then went and explored a few housing communities. After two great church services today (well done, GM), we grabbed some bad southern food and did some more house scoping. Great stuff. Raquel and I will be home owners before too long. That’s exciting!

Mom and Dad leave on Tuesday night. A couple more quality days to go, a day of rest for me on Wednesday and then another jam-packed weekend for me at the GM mens’ retreat. I love my life.

Time for bed now. I will sleep well tonight.

To God be the glory!

My mom and dad are flying in tonight to spend the Easter weekend with us.  I’m glad they’re coming.  I miss them.
