Afternoon Delight

A couple dudes from my church, in a moment of raw inspiration (or lack thereof?) produced this video last week to complement a discussion on a new direction for the church that we have dubbed GM 2.0. In actuality, this video doesn’t have much to do with anything, but it was one of the dang funniest things I have ever seen.

Stop Whining

Marko posted a link to a nice retake on the old wishywashy Footprints poem. I found it amusing and, yet, rather profound at the same time. I have excerpted it below. Read the whole thing here.

“Seriously, if you want someone to carry you, first you’re going to have to lay off the donuts. And second, find a god that doesn’t care so much about you. Remember that suffering produces perseverance, which develops character, which leads to hope? You want me to deny you hope just so you can piggy back when the sand starts feeling hot on your tender little toesies? Grow up.”

Dave Matthews Band

I just got home from catching the Dave Matthews Band down at Smirnoff Amphitheater. As most of you know (and if you don’t, you should), the Dave Matthews Band is my all-time favorite band. Recent years have found me burning out on them a little bit with the release of crap studio albums such as Everyday and Stand Up but their live show continues to be amazing year after year after year. That’s what keeps me hanging onto them.

However, I haven’t been to a DMB concert since 2003. I missed their Texas run in 2004 because they were here less than a week before our wedding and last year we were in NYC when they came through…ironically enough, on our anniversary.

I’ve seen DMB 15 times before tonight. Granted, there were several songs I’d have loved to hear on my return to the live-show setting (Seek Up, Two Step, #41, etc), but I’d have to say that this was one of the very best times I have had at any show ever, DMB or not. They had an opening run of Best Of What’s Around, Song That Jane Likes, Say Goodbye, Pig, Lie In Our Graves, and a new song called Break Free that was just unbelieveable (by the way, Break Free is an amazing song and from what I’ve heard, tonight’s performance of it was unreal by comparison).

Other highlights for me were You Might Die Trying (sonically, this song was amazing), Warehouse (which seemed to go on forever), Louisianna Bayou, and Rapunzel. The encore of What You Are, and Stay was less-than-pleasing as far as song selection goes, but the performances were powerful nonetheless.

The energy onstage was intense throughout and from my vantage point the crowd was awesome.

The only drawback for me, didn’t have to do with the concert but the fact that the $30 I spent on a tour t-shirt was wasted because it fits me like a medium shirt would. I normally wear XL. Unfortunately, my phsyique doesn’t do too well with a form-fitting shirt. I guess I need to start working to a point where I can wear that shirt and have it look good on me.

All in all, though…I had an amazing time tonight and I’m glad that I came back to the live DMB setting tonight. Thanks to Cameron and Michelle for the awesome “tickets” and to that security guard we paid off to get us off the lawn into some great seats.

Well Put

I just read the following comment in response to a thread about Third Day at DallasChristianMusic.com. I couldn’t agree more.

They’re like jellies. They were cute and cool, and everyone had to have a pair, and then they grew to be uncool, and everyone suddenly realized that they’re terribly uncomfortable, and are now only useful to mention in “remember when” conversations.

Take hope in the folding of Audio A. All bands must come to an end at some point.

Fitting Tribute

We’re In!

Posted on August 1st, 2006 in Ramblings | 4 Comments »

I am writing this blog entry from the living room in our new house. We’re home.

Lot’s of packing and cleaning up to do, but this is all very good. Bring it on!

Maybe someday we will share the tales of the aboslutely horrific customer service we received throughout the last week from our sales office. But for now, we clean (well, Raquel and her friends), organize, unpack, and live well.

Be good.
