The Landlord

Posted on April 20th, 2007 in Humor, Video | 2 Comments »

Yeah…this is too rich to not post. I know this is a recent Interweb phenomenon and that most of you have already seen it, but even I can be a bandwagon jumper sometimes.

Also, please note the PG-13 language. Don’t watch it with young kids within earshot.

Spring Time In Texas

Allow me to brag on myself for a moment…

If you’ve read the other blog at all recently, you know that I did some work in my garden not too long ago. I was pretty pleased with the outcome and it has caused me to spend more time out in front of my house enjoying my work.

This morning I walked outside, took in the perfection of this day with the sun, seasonably comfortable weather, and noticed in particular how good my garden smells. It’s one of those things that kinda caught me by surprise, really. I wasn’t stopping to smell the flowers…I just happened to be walking by them, on the way out to my car…and the smell stopped me. So sweet.

Spring time in Texas has finally arrived and is living in my yard.

Grindhouse

Grindhouse

As a Christian, I can’t in good conscience recommend this movie that Drew and I saw the other night, but I will say this much: Grindhouse is quite possibly the most entertaining movie I’ve seen in a long, long time. It’s not for the faint of heart and it is reprobate in just about every way, but it is very funny, and the cinematography is astounding in Tarantino’s portion. As a side note, Tarantino fans will appreciate the numerous “callbacks” from his other films.

If you’re into being thoroughly entertained, go see it.

My New Favorite Brew

Session Lager

My good friend, Stephen, blogged about this particular brew a while back and more recently, I attended a little shindig at his casa and had the opportunity to partake of Session Lager, brewed by Full Sail in Portland, Oregon. Now, those who know me well, know for sure that I certainly am able to enjoy a good beer on occasion and my wife has taken to calling me a beer snob. She’s right. I am. So, it was a pleasure to try something new.

I am generally more a fan of amber ales, but the flavor, the smoothness, and the all around easy drinking of this beer quickly cemented it towards the top of my list of favorites.

For my friends in the Frisco area, if you’re interested you can pick up a case of this (comes in 12 packs only) at Market Street in McKinney. It’ll be worth your trip.

An Ode to my Television

Posted on April 5th, 2007 in Pop Culture, Ramblings, Television | 3 Comments »

I’m not a TV fanatic. Really, I’m not. True, I watch a lot of it, but that’s only because I’m not really creative enough to figure out something else to do with the immense amount of free time I’ve stumbled upon lately. The vast majority of what’s on broadcast television these days is utter crap, but as with any medium, there are a few gems and they keep my DVR busy. Now, in no particular order, I would like pay homage to those gems:

The Office
Single best comedy on TV right now, hands down. As a side note, I am stoked about the return of new episodes starting tonight. It’s supersized tonight, folks.

Heroes
This show rivals 24 as my current favorite drama.

24
Superman wears Jack Bauer pajamas. This show exudes campy greatness.

Scrubs
The other best comedy currently on the air.

Gray’s Anatomy
Desperate Housewives
Does the inclusion of these shows on my list of favorites make me gay? Well, if it does, dress me up in frilly pink panties and grab me a fruity beverage because I enjoy them both…greatly.

Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip
This show made the list simply because Aaron Sorkin is the best writer in the television medium since…well…whoever before him that was really good. The show he created prior to Studio 60, The West Wing was, in my opinion the best drama ever made for television and while the subject of Studio 60 can’t even touch the greatness that was WW, the writing is as good, the characters are as intriguing, and it’s just a dang fun show to watch.

And my new favorite…

Planet Earth
Airing on the Discovery Channel, this show was shot in HD for HDTV’s. I haven’t had the opportunity to experience the greatness of this show in HD yet, but I must say, outside of an IMAX theater, I’ve never seen motion photography this stunning. This show is simply a masterpiece and pay an excellent tribute to the Creator of Planet Earth.

Ch ch ch changes…

Great Weekend

Genesis Metro Guys Disc Golf Adventure
Originally uploaded by marcbrandenburg.

Man…sometimes everything just clicks. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect, the company was precious as always, and the activities were as enjoyable a time as I’ve had since the trip to Utah.

A bunch of guys from Genesis Metro went out and played disc golf at Lake Lewisville Park on Saturday afternoon. Disc golf is one of my favorite sports (up there with skiing…mostly because I excel at it), and it was a great time for everyone who attended. I hauled my BBQ out there in my truck and we had some hot dogs and enjoyed some good times in the beautiful park on a perfect day.

The Greneauxs were in town this weekend and we got to spend some great quality time with them as well. Between dinners and my crashing of a ladies night, quality times were had with great people.

It’s a rare occasion for me to come off a weekend like the one just passed, where I’m not completely thankful, and wholly appreciative of the great people with whom I get to share life and ministry. The lack of activity and quality company once the week starts back up again can sometimes be disheartening to me but today I am refreshed.

This above shot was by Marc Brandenburg. Check out the rest of the photos from the disc golf outing here or by clicking the photo above. His web site is worth a moment of your time as well.
