Happy Halloween

Rest is needed after a long, but thoroughly fulfilling weekend. Had our fall youth retreat — BreakAway — with which I was once again involved in leading worship. Saturday night was amazing. Yesterday continued the experience with Paul allowing me to step up and lead the worship service at Genesis Metro. This was an amazing experience for me…I just hope that this was apparent and that worship was experienced. My voice was pretty raw after leading worship for the youth five times over the weekend, but the intensity was sure there.
I have noticed one thing though…I hate listening to recordings of my singing. I never sound as good as I felt while I was singing. Go figure. It’s cool though…I still love doing it.
UPDATE: I just listened to some of the clips from yesterday…I know I am my own worst critic, but good lord…I’ve had much better vocal days.
Another week begins and rest has eluded me. It’s good thing I love what I do and the folks with whom I do it. It makes everything worth it.
I am leading worship for the morning service at Genesis Metro Church. I can’t wait.
I figure I better put something up in light of the Cowboys loss yesterday…something to be at the top of the page to replace that last post. I must say, even with the loss yesterday, it’s been an interesting season to observe. I used to think up until recently (Romo?) that watching the Cowboys play was akin to watching a trainwreck occur. With the exception of last Monday night, they’ve actually been worthwhile football team. This is plenty more than I can say about the team who has owned my devotion since 1983. It is what it is.
But I digress.
Raquel and I have been tremendously busy as of late. But it’s been a good kind of busy…at least in my opinion. At least, we’ve been busy with things that matter to us and that we really enjoy doing with folks we enjoy being around. Towards the end of this past summer we started plugging in with the youth groups at Genesis Metro which has been thoroughly rewarding. But this also takes up a substantial amount of our free time together.
This hasn’t yet become a problem, and I think we’re balanced enough to keep it from ever becoming one. But this has lent itself to us finding ways to become more creative in what we do with our free time together. We went on a date Saturday night with our newest good friends, the Lozadas, had some sushi and went to the Frisco Storytelling Festival. We had talked about going to see a movie or something but that seemed a little cliché to us. In hindsight, going to a movie might have been a better choice but it was fun nonetheless.
This weekend we’re going to attempt (for a second time) to commemorate our three-year wedding anniversary which was back on September 5th. Our first attempt was a bit of a bust when a short out-of-town jaunt to OKC was met with Raquel being knocked over by a bad cold and horrendous customer service everywhere we went. So, we try again this weekend. We’re staying closer to home…just going to be creative again with our time together.
I like where we are in life. I sometimes wish there was a bit more time in the night to sleep, but I don’t know if I really want to change what we’re busy with. Maybe if I were to start and stick to some kind of exercise routine, I might be able to drum up some energy. Hmm…that sounds like a plan.
Friday Night – Umphrey’s McGee was back in town this past weekend. Caught their show with Drew. Amazing show as always. I got to meet my favorite working guitarist and talk about G&L guitars which was awesome. This dude is a phenomenal guitarist and it was so cool to be able to rap with him about that stuff. And of course the time with Drew was as quality as ever. We had some great conversation and of course, good brewskis and great music.
Saturday – Basically a nothing day, which was just fine. Tim and Carrie’s oldest boy is staying with us for the week while they’re out on vacation so we hung out with him.
As it turns out, one of the guys in the GM youth group is a bass player and we needed a bassist on Sunday. He and I got together on Saturday to work through some of the tunes for Sunday.
Sunday – Great service at GM yesterday. Drew preached. Nailed it. Very effective with a great message. Excellent speaker. I shared the stage with the aforementioned youthgroup member, James, which was a true joy for me…to have been able to make a meaningful connection and have him share in the experience of what our worship service was like.
After church we were joined at the house by the Breaud family watching the lameass Denver Broncos get the crap kicked out of them. I’m thinking of finding a new team to love.
After the game Jeremy and I headed to Masterlife at Bill’s. What a quality time that always is. I admire those guys so much…such a joy to be counted amongst them!
There that is. Nothing too significant, but it was fulfilling. Although today, I’m feeling a bit unsettled. I’m not sure what that’s coming from. I need to start over today.

Say what you will about the state of of affairs and issues surrounding health care and insurance in this country. I for one am relieved to be working again for an organization that provides health benefits as part of the employment package. Today my health coverage goes into effect and I intend on using it today–in about 20 minutes–to finally attempt to get some relief to these allergies that have been kicking my rear now for nearly four weeks. Bring on the heavy duty prescriptions, baby!
UPDATE: Prescription strength nasal spray wins! Feels so nice to breath clearly for a change and leave the box of Kleenex in the car.
