No Country For Old Men

Raquel and I went out last night with Drew and Lindsay to catch the latest Coen Brothers work, No Country For Old Men. I have always been a fan of the Coen Brothers with movies like The Big Lebowski, Fargo, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, and Raising Arizona amongst my favorites of all time. They possess a skill in film making that captures the viewer and makes you think about what you’re viewing. Even in a seemingly goofy film on the surface like The Big Lebowski, there is an intricately woven story with writing of craftsmen that is matched by few. I’m not a film reviewer or schooled “appreciator” of the art form, but I know good artwork when I see it and I love to appreciate it.

That said, from the moment I first saw a trailer for No Country I knew I would be in for a treat. And a treat is what I received. Even though I am still trying to process the story and the film’s ending (don’t worry, no spoilers here), I can unequivocally say that this is the best movie of the year. I will be shocked and amazed of the Brothers don’t get Academy nods for Best Adaptation and Javier Bardem as Best Actor. I think Tommy Lee Jones deserves a nod as well. It’s a dark movie. Bardem’s character is truly evil. But the humor, suspense, and story telling are on par with what one can expect by such master film makers.

The Coen Brothers have created another masterpiece.
