Together Again

My good friend and former Next 6 Exits bandmate, Ryan Hopkins, will be joining the Genesis Metro worship team on Sunday morning for the 9:30 and 11:00 services. Judging from last night’s rehearsal, this will be an amazing time. If you’re not doing anything, come worship with us.

Monday Morning Check-In: 11.17.08

The Weekend That Was: What a great weekend! Friday night, went out to Hidden Cove Park to get some camping in with Jeremy, Josh, Brian, Steven, and Ryan. Brian fixed up some chili from Chili’s and some cornbread. We hung out by the fire talking about life and stuff that dudes talk about around a campfire. It was pretty freakin’ cold and windy, to the point of being nearly oppressive at times, but we had a great time. There wasn’t any sleep to be had and we changed our breakfast plans on Saturday morning. We went to IHOP instead of making our own at the campsite. This was a superior choice.

For the rest of Saturday I slept to make up for the lack thereof on Friday. Raquel and I went out to get some new pants and shirts to accomodate for my ever-shrinking wasteline. Size 33, baby! We thoroughly enjoyed our time together and Raquel ended up scoring a Coach handbag. Good times all around.

Sunday…it was Sunday. You could go back and read any of my recent Check-Ins and my remarks about Sunday mornings and just change the weeks and the song titles and you’d get how yesterday morning was. The band took a stab at an original arrangement of Come Thou Fount Of Every Blessing which is one of the quintessential songs of the faith and it was such a great joy to share that with our church yesterday. Had a relaxing afternoon catching the tail end of the Broncos victory and getting some work done. Last night was the innaugural meeting of the latest men’s MasterLife group I am coleading. This will be different than the last one dynamically, but no less groundbreaking. I’m really excited to see how the next 24 weeks goes.

The Sunday Morning Worship Setlist Was:
Blessed Be Your Name – GM Band (went for a new take on this with Carrie singing lead…pure greatness!)
Cry Out Your Name – Kim Hill
Come Thou Fount – original arrangement (Carrie and Patrick vocal duet)
Endlessly – Desperation Band
Mighty To Save – Hillsong United ‘08 version

Coming Up This Week: Nothing too high profile. May go check out TR3 (Tim Reynolds) at the Granada on Wednesday. My good friend and former bandmate Ryan Hopkins is sitting in with the worship team at GM this week which has me pretty fired up. It will be good to share some music with him. I’d like to try to catch the Bond flick this week too.

Weight Watchers Update: I was down 1.2 lbs last week. About 6 lbs from the goal.

Music That Seemed To Get My Attention This Week: The new live album from The Police (Certifiable) rules! Anyone who is even remotely a fan of this great band needs to get it. It was recorded on their recent world tour.

Most Excited About: Life in general. I’ve stated it several times in written and spoken form in recent weeks but I just absolutely love my place in life. Married to my love, living my dream and doing so with the best people I know. It’s unbelievable to be found in this kind of favor, but man…I am doing what I can to soak it up.

Well, I completely flaked on the check-in last week, but I’m back in the saddle again.

The Weekend That Was: I just need to say that I love my life.

Friday night and Saturday were very low key, which was absolutely fine. Slept or laid around the house most of Saturday until Raquel got called into work late in the afternoon. I went with her and while she was working I slipped into the Saturday evening worship service at Prestonwood. It’s interesting how my perspective has changed over the years, as I found myself rather enjoying the experience. I was thoroughly impressed by the level of excellence exhibited by the musicians and singers and, while I didn’t sing, I was able to be refreshed on a spiritual level. I found that I was drawn to the very things that used to turn me off about the worship services I had previously attended there. The professionalism, the order of service, the excellence in musicianship, and the teaching by Pastor Graham. It was a good time.

We met up with the Terks, Jess, and all their kids for some dinner at Chili’s after Raquel was finished at work and enjoyed just hanging out.

Then of course there was Sunday. I love Sundays. It was another morning of great services accompanied by great worship and great teaching. Last night the men of the church gathered for the kickoff of the next round of MasterLife. About a dozen and a half guys are signed up to go through this session and I will once again be co-leading a group. Brandon and Josh will be sharing that experience with me and we’ve got a group of guys who are really solid and have come expecting some great things.

We fellowshiped together over some great food, heard some great testimonies, and worshiped together. Afterwards, several guys went to Starbuck’s to hang for a bit and headed home. Dear friends the Bournes and Floyds were hanging out at the house when I got home, which was such a treat! I am so blessed to be counted amongst those friends and it was just such an uplifting time. I am physically weary this morning but it is so worth it following a weekend like this one.

The Sunday Morning Worship Setlist Was:
Counting On God - Desperation Band
Jesus, Lover Of My Soul – Genesis Metro Band arrangement
Friend Of God – Passion ‘07 version
O Praise Him (All This For A King) – Crowder
Savior King – Hillsong United ‘08 version
Ready Now – Desperation BAnd

Coming Up This Week: Having dinner with some of Raquel’s friends tomorrow night and going camping with a couple guys on Friday night. The new MasterLife group meets next Sunday night and besides that, it’s shaping up to be a standard week…which, really means absolutely nothing lately, but when life is good, standard is fine.

Weight Watchers Update: There’s been no change since the last time I gave an update…been holding steady at about 197. Still have about 8 lbs to go.

Music That Seemed To Get My Attention This Week: I don’t think I have anything to report here. If I change my mind, I’ll let you know.

Bad Behavior has blocked 44 access attempts in the last 7 days.
